After winning their semifinal yesterday, Gevvie Stone and Kristi Wagner (ARION) were in a good position to claim victory today in the finals of the USRowing Olympic Trials in the Women’s Double. After hanging with the pack to about the thousand meter mark, Gevvie and Kristie began to move through the field, took the lead, and continued to extend it to the line, winning by 4 seconds over Molly Reckford and Michelle Sechser (the 2020/1 US lightweight double), and 5 seconds over the 2016 US Olympic double of Ellen Tomek and Meghan O’Leary. The US Training Center/Craftsbury composite of Jenifer Forbes and Sophie Vitas finished fourth.
The victory secured a spot for Gevvie and Kristi on the US Olympic Team. They will be returning to Boston, and will set their sights on the second world cup in Lucerne, Switzerland and the Tokyo Olympics.
