Gevvie and Mary training before NSR I

BRF athletes Mary Jones Nabel and Gevvie Stone competed in the first USRowing National Selection Regatta in West Windsor, NJ April 17-19th. For Mary, this was a continuation of her racing from 2017, which culminated in a bronze in the lightweight women’s single at the World Championships in Sarasota, Florida. For Gevvie, it was the first step of a comeback, after nearly a year of medical residency.

Mary continued her domestic dominance with a 7 second win in the lightweight women’s single. She will next shift her focus to the double for National Selection Regatta II, which is only Olympic event  for lightweight women.

Gevvie finished 3rd in the open single, behind 2012 Olympic Bronze Medallist Kara Kohler, and 2016 Olympian Felice Mueller, and ahead of 2017 World Silver Medallists and 2016 Olympians Meghan O’Leary and Ellen Tomek (who was also a 2008 Olympian), as well as Olympic Gold Medallist (Women’s Eight) Lauren Schmetterling. She will be continuing her first year of residency and take a leave of absence in mid August to resume full time training with the aim of racing the single at the Tokyo Olympics.
